The Academy is a free four-week “Day Camp” (Monday through Friday) for young men and women of Plainfield who will enter the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades in September 2024. The Academy is free of charge.
The motto of the Queen City Mentoring Academy is “Honor – Respect – Commitment.” Our objective is to educate the cadets about public service, including county government, the judiciary system, emergency services, and law enforcement.
We emphasize self-respect, respect for others, teamwork, and commitment to one’s goals. This is accomplished through structured events, which will be offered in a fun, informative, interactive, educational, and hands-on manner. The format is similar to what the actual police academy cadets experience.
The curriculum will consist of educational activities, and physical training activities. The daily programs will include presentations from educators, interaction with agencies, and field trips. The cadets will be given exposure to available state, county, and city resources.
The Academy will be held at Charles & Anna Booker School. The program runs from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m and the Academy will provide food for the cadets.
Please remember that there may be modifications of scheduled hours for field trip dates, however your child will be notified in advance.
Each participant will be provided with a uniform (hat, t-shirt, and shorts). The uniform must be worn from the day issued until the completion of the program, including graduation. It should be noted that these uniforms must be cleaned daily.
The required application MUST BE completed and returned to Plainfield Police Department, 200 East 4th Street, Plainfield, New Jersey 07062. This application must be complete and legible, or it will not be accepted. Please be advised that applying before the deadline does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
Space is limited. Due to the popularity of this program, applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. All paperwork must be filled out and signed where indicated, or your child will not be permitted to attend. Even if your child does not take medication, these forms must be completed. You will be notified of your child’s acceptance and the date of the Parent Orientation Meeting.
Upon completing the Academy, there will be an official graduation ceremony on August 10, 2024. Family members are invited to attend. See Rules & Regulations for additional important details.
